Dahlia Bow Tutorial
Our new Dahlia Bow template is available in three convenient options to suit your crafting needs:
1. Custom Preprinted Fabric Template
We preprint the template onto one of our fabric bases with your chosen design (or your uploaded design).
Print the template at home and use any fabric you have on hand.
Purchase our fabric with the template already preprinted on it—the pattern is printed in the exact shape you need to cut out.
Materials Needed:
• Dahlia Bow Template: Choose one of the three options above.
• Fabric: Preprinted or fabric of your choice.
• Scissors or Rotary Cutter: For cutting out the shapes.
• Sewing Machine or Needle & Thread: For stitching.
• Fabric Clips or Pins: To hold pieces together.
• Rubber Band or Thread: To secure overlapping pieces.
• Hot Glue Gun or Fabric Glue: For additional adhesion.
• Hair Clip or Headband: For attaching the bow.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Cut Out Your Bow Pieces
• Using the Preprinted or Printable Template:
Carefully cut out the bow shapes. You should end up with three separate pieces:
• Two rectangles: These form the top and bottom parts of the bow. They are slightly different in size—the larger rectangle will be used for one half of the bow and the smaller one for the other half.
• One center piece: This will be wrapped around the assembled bow.
Step 2: Prepare the Bow Pieces (Top & Bottom)
• For the Larger Rectangle:
1. Fold in Half Hamburger Style: Fold the rectangle in half horizontally so that the two open short edges are now together. Think of it like folding a hamburger bun.
2. Sew the Edges: Sew along the open edges, but be sure to leave a 1-inch opening in the center. This gap is crucial for turning the fabric right side out.
• Repeat for the Smaller Rectangle:
Follow the same process for the second, slightly smaller rectangle.
Step 3: Turn the Fabric Right Side Out
• Carefully flip both sewn pieces through the 1-inch opening so that the right (patterned) side is now visible.
• Use a turning tool (like a chopstick or pencil) to help push out the corners neatly.
• Press with a low-heat iron if needed to smooth out wrinkles.
Step 4: Assemble the Bow
• Lay Out the Two Bow Pieces:
Position them longways so that they overlap slightly—about an inch of overlap.
• Pinch and Secure:
Pinch the two pieces together from top to bottom where they overlap, creating a layered bow effect. Secure the overlap with either a hand stitch using thread or by wrapping a small rubber band around the bow to hold it in place.
Step 5: Prepare and Attach the Center Piece
• Fold the Center Piece:
Take the center piece and carefully fold in each side. Apply a small dab of glue along the fold to keep it from unfolding.
• Wrap Around the Bow:
Wrap this folded piece around the center of your overlapped bow pieces.
• Secure the Center:
Glue the center piece to the backside of the bow, ensuring it stays in place. This step adds a finished look to your bow.
Step 6: Final Touch – Add a Clip
• Attach your chosen clip (or headband) by applying a bit of glue to the back of the bow and firmly pressing the clip in place. This allows you to easily attach or wear your Dahlia Bow.
